Privacy Policy

The desktop app scans your files entirely on your own device — nothing about what's on your disk (file names, paths, sizes, contents) is ever sent anywhere. The only data that leaves your device is what's strictly needed to activate a license and check for app updates. The website collects a bit more, but only what's needed to run a free trial and a paid subscription.

Scanning, analyzing, and cleaning up storage all happen locally on your machine. SpaceFree never uploads file listings, file contents, folder names, or any scan results to us or anyone else. The app stores its own settings, license state, cleanup history, and cached scan results in a folder under your user profile (~/.spacefree) — this data stays on your device and is never transmitted.

Two things the app does require a network request:

• License activation. When you activate a license key, the app sends the key itself, a generated instance ID, and a device label (your computer's hostname and OS platform, e.g. "DESKTOP-ABC123-win32") to our payments provider, Dodo Payments, to verify the key and register the activation. No other information about you or your device is sent.
• Update checks. The app periodically checks a version feed (served from this website) to see if a newer version is available. This is a standard network request — your IP address is visible to our hosting provider the same way it would be for loading any web page, but we don't log or store it separately.

Claiming a free trial requires signing in with Google. We receive your Google account's email address and display name, which we use to create your account record, issue you a trial license key, and prevent the same person from claiming multiple trials. This is stored in our database (Supabase) and is not shared with anyone except as needed to operate the service (see "Third-party services" below).

If you subscribe, your email and name are passed to Dodo Payments to set up the checkout session. Dodo Payments handles the actual payment — your card or other payment details are entered directly with them and never pass through or get stored on our servers.

Depending on how you use SpaceFree, some data is shared with:

• Google — for signing in to claim a free trial.
• Dodo Payments — for license activation/validation and processing subscription payments.
• Supabase — our database provider, storing account and trial records.
• Vercel — hosts this website, and by default logs standard web request data (like IP address) as part of normal infrastructure operation.

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data on our behalf.

We keep account and license records for as long as your account is active, or as needed to comply with our legal and financial obligations. If you'd like your account data deleted, contact us using the details below and we'll remove what we can, other than records our payment provider is legally required to retain.

SpaceFree is a developer tool and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted here.
